Saskatchewan

Known as the breadbasket of Canada and the land of the living skies, Saskatchewan is located in western Canada between the provinces of Alberta to the west and Manitoba to the east. Home to the Big Muddy Badlands, it is famous for the last resting place of Sitting Bull and also for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Training Academy.

Along with a rich mix of history, culture and geography, Saskatchewan offers visitors endless freshwater fishing and water-based recreation opportunities, abundant wildlife, uncrowded parks and a variety of outdoor adventures such as canoeing, hiking and horse riding. Prince Albert National Park protects an area of the northern boreal forest. The park has a diversity of wildlife, including the only fully protected white pelican nesting colony in Canada. Elk, black bears, foxes, moose, beavers, deer and badgers also range within the park, which boasts of being one of the few places left in the world where timber wolves live undisturbed.

Saskatoon

With so much to offer, Saskatoon is a forward-thinking metropolis where the door is always open for discovery. It is the place to experience local eateries, bustling nightlife, river trails and other outdoor spaces as well as cultural institutions and museums.

With over 65 annual events (40 in the summer alone), there is no shortage of things to see and do! The Sundog Arts and Entertainment Faire is the perfect opportunity to find that handmade piece of Saskatchewan to take home and show off. See and taste how the professionals do it at RibFest in Diefenbaker Park - you will go to BBQ heaven!

Saskatoon has a number of one-stop shopping centres for your convenience that are easy to get to and will satisfy any diehard shopper. Not only will you find the basics, but you'll also find that special something at one of the exciting new shops at malls such as The Centre on 8th Street East and Midtown in downtown Saskatoon.

Prince Albert National Park

Prince Albert National Park is one of Saskatchewan’s most popular four-season destinations where you can mix wilderness encounters with the comforts of a lakeside resort.

More than 150 km of hiking trails take visitors deep into the park to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, discover points of interest and, perhaps, come face-to-face with wildlife. Guided tours are available for visitors who prefer it.  Be taken on a transformative journey into the forest to discover ecological wonders and get close to nature.

The legend of Grey Owl is one of the park’s enduring stories. Famed conservationalist and enigmatic figure, Grey Owl warned of the dangers of taking the natural world and its resources for granted. His one-room log cabin on the shore of Ajawaan Lake is a pilgrimage destination, accessible only by boat, canoe or hiking trail. It is well worth the effort.

The active can rent a boat or stand up paddleboard or relax on a evening sunset cruise or lakeshore dining cruise.  In addition to the Waskesiu townsite’s 600-metre-long main beach, there are five other beaches along Waskesiu Lake.
