Over 80 percent of the Yukon is wilderness, and there are more caribou here than people! If you’re looking for a wildlife holiday, where better than one of the wildest places in the world to see not only caribou, but also moose, bears, sheep, birds and hundreds of other northern species? The Yukon has three national parks, six territorial parks and four Canadian Heritage Rivers, so there is no shortage of opportunity to get out and discover the wildlife.
Day 1 - Arrive in Whitehorse

Welcome to Canada‘s Yukon Territory! Your tour guide will meet you at the airport and offer you transpor-tation to your hotel where you will meet your fellow travelers. Your guide will run the group through a brief orientation. Afterwards, you will have time to explore the city of Whitehorse or take a walk along the majestic Yukon River. In the evening, we will come together and enjoy a nice welcoming Dinner.

Day 2 - Whitehorse to Skagway. 

From Whitehorse, a day trip takes us down the Klondike Highway South to the historic Alaskan town of Skagway. On our way, we will pass through a wonderful variety of ecoregions and alpine landscapes, as we cross over the continental divide. You will see the extraordinary colors of Emerald Lake (also called locally Rainbow Lake), the scenic lakeside village of Carcross, the famous White Pass on the way to Skagway and the Pacific coast. We will also stop to see the smallest desert in the world!For an even more breathtaking panorama, we highly recommend you take the historic White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad (optional). It is, without a doubt, one of the best scenic train rides you will ever take! In the evening, we will be back in Whitehorse, where we can enjoy one last delicious dinner together.

Day 3 - Whitehorse to Watson Lake

After breakfast, we will have some more time to explore the capital. This includes a visit of the authentic S.S. Klondike (a paddle wheeler restored from the gold rush time in the Yukon), or of any of the many historic sites. This day will bring closer the gold rush history. Our adventure will start in the afternoon, when we will drive towards Yellowknife. Our road trip begins on the popular Alaska Highway, past Marsh Lake, through Teslin and over the Nisutlin Bay Bridge, the longest Bridge of the Highway. While we are driving, we are not only enjoying the beautiful landscapes, you will also learn many interesting facts about the great ALCAN Highway construction. We will arrive in Watson Lake in the evening. There, we have the opportunity to visit the Northern Lights Space and Science Center, where we can see an amazing northern lights show.

Day 4 - Muncho Lake Provincial Park 

Watson Lake is home to the famous Sign Post Forest, that has currently over 72,000 signs from all around the globe and counting. Maybe you have a sign with you and would like to add it to the collection to be a part of this tradition. Our trip goes on and we will reach the heart of Canada, the fabulous Rocky Mountains. This iconic landscape is truly impressive and besides, we will have a good chance to see more wildlife as we are deep in the Muskwa-Kechika Nationalpark.Hike up the mountain trails in the fascinating Muncho Lake Provincial Park and enjoy the nature to its fullest. In the evening, if the group wishes, we can relax in the popular Liard Hot Springs (optional).

Day 5 - Muncho Lake Provincial Park

This is a perfect day to enjoy all the outdoor opportunities and the magnificent surroundings. We will hike in the beautiful Provincial Park and if you want, you can paddle in a canoe on Muncho Lake. Moreover, it is also a great spot to gather your energy, rest and internalize the moment.

Day 6 - Fort Nelson 

Today’s journey brings us to Fort Nelson. This little town was once famous for its pelts, but nowadays, its main industry is wood and gas. Along our drive today, it is almost impossible not to see animals. In the re-mote north-east part of British Columbia, you can find Mountain Goats, Bison‘s, Moose, Caribous, Elks, Wolfs, Coyotes, Fox, Lynx, Black and Brown Bears. This day will give us a great opportunity to take many incredible pictures.

Day 7 - Fort Simpson 

In the morning, we will hit the road again and leave Fort Nelson on the Liard Highway northbound. No matter what weather conditions we will face, this Road is highly impressive with its panorama views on the Nahanni Mountains and the Liard River, especially in the Blackstone Territorial Park. We are now in the Northwest Territories. We will pass Fort Liard, a block house town that lies in one of the oldest populated regions of the north. They produce impressive handmade birch bark baskets, decorated with traditional ornaments from the Dene First Nations. These crafts are very famous in the north.The next upcoming town with 1.200 residents is Fort Simpson, which is located at the confluence of the Liard and the Mackenzie River, and is the main hub for tours in the Nahanni National Park. Once arrived, we can go to the visitor information center to gather some interesting facts about the Park and see the variety of tours they offer. Since those tours can be greatly influenced by the weather, we will stay 3 days in Fort Simpson.

Day 8- 9 - Fort Simpson 

During one of the days in Fort Simpson, we highly recommend you take a sightseeing flight on a small bush plane over the Nahanni National Park. You have the option to fly over and land close to the breathtaking Virgina Falls. This is one of the best experiences you can have! You will be amazed by the beauty of this fascinating landscape!On the other day, we can explore Fort Simpson and if someone prefers more adventures, there are many different options. For example, go on a motor boat ride on the Mackenzie River, paddle the South Nahanni, the Flat River, or hike on one of the many beautiful trails. This area with its endless mountains and canyons will offer us spectacular views.

Day 10 - Hay River 

After breakfast, will be on the Road again, driving towards Hay River, where we’ll find many beautiful natural sights. A stop at the Sambaa Deh Falls Territorial Park is a must while in the NWT, we will hike the short trail to go enjoy the impressive vistas of the Sambaa Deh and Coral Falls before heading back on the road. We will also stop on the way to take a closer look at the Lady Evelyn Falls or the McNallie Creek Falls. Those are the perfect spots to enjoy a nice picnic with a great view. We will reach these picturesque waterfalls and a deep gorge canyon by following a short hiking trail. Hay River itself is the starting point of many tours going to the Great Slave Lake. In addition to that, Hay River is popular for the ‘Ice Pilots’ TV show and there is a good chance to see one of the famous ‘Buffalo Air’ machines.

Day 11 - Hay River 

Today, will take a trip to the Twin Falls Gorge Territorial Park and enjoy the 2 km long hike between Alexandra and Louise Falls. The unique Falls paved their way through a 400 million years old rock and is also the pride of the Dene First Nations. They call the Alexandra Falls: “Hatto deh Naili “, which means “Holy place of strength “. With a little bit of luck, we have the chance to encounter wildlife again; bears, lynx, fox, wolves and maybe moose.

Day 12 - Fort Providence 

During the first part of the day, we will have a little fishing boat ride on the Great Slave Lake. Later in the afternoon, we will drive to Fort Providence. There, we will visit a very interesting little craft store, that has a great selection woven goods made from moose hair.The nights are very long but will try to stay awake for a while since we might be lucky enough to see the northern lights!

Day 13 - Yellowknife 

The drive to Yellowknife will lead us through the Mackenzie Bison Sanctuary. In this area, we must pay attention because there is a high chance of seeing wildlife on the side of the road. In between, we will have a nice picnic lunch break at the Chan Lake, a beautiful place to rest and enjoy the view. Yellowknife is not only the capital of the Northwest Territories, it is also known as the diamond capital. This small city, that possesses every advantage of a capital, has 90 diverse nations and therefore, a truly unique atmosphere. Yellowknife was established because of the gold mining wealth, but now prospers from the diamond industry. This city offers many things to see and even more to do. There is something for every taste, canoeing, hiking, fishing, swimming, playing golf or seeing interesting cultural points of interest. Amongst the sites we will visit are the Prince-of-Wales cultural center and the igloo parliament building.

Day 14 - Yellowknife

Today, we will travel on the Ingraham Trail where we will visit the Cameron Falls, the last waterfalls of our trip. Later, we will see Prelude Lake, that offers many activities like boat trips, canoeing or hiking. It is a great stop for a nice picnic. The Ingraham Trail is very popular, especially during winter time, because it is the starting point of the popular TV show ‘Ice Road Truckers’. In the evening, we are back in Yellowknife to enjoy a delicious dinner together and to review those last beautiful days.

Day 15 - Depart

Chances are, there’s still plenty to do and see in Yellowknife, and the last day of your trip offers one last chance to visit. Ruby Range will provide your transportation to the airport or to a connecting programme.
