Aside from the belugas and bears, you’ll have the opportunity to see a whole host of other wildlife on this trip including caribou, fox (red and arctic), wolves, moose and birds such as ptarmigan, Smith’s Longspur, Ross’ and Bonaparte gulls and jaegers. In fact, it isn’t unusual for birders to see 100 species over the course of their adventure.
Seal River Heritage Lodge, located 60 beautiful kilometres by air from Churchill, Manitoba, will be your home for this exciting week. As well as polar bears, this area is also the best place to see large numbers of beluga whales as thousands of them calve in the protection of the Hudson Bay each summer.

Day 1 - Winnipeg
Arrive in Winnipeg and overnight. There will be an orientation meeting in the evening.
Day 2 - Churchill
Fly to Churchill where you will transfer to a small aircraft for your exciting flight to Seal River Heritage Lodge. Be prepared to see huge pods of whales, countless birds, as well as caribou and, of course, the magnificent Ice Bears. The Seal River Estuary is a summer favourite for polar bears and they are regularly seen swimming or basking near the water’s edge.
Days 3-6 - Seal River Heritage Lodge
In the coming days and depending on both weather and group interest, you will enjoy the following activities: Marine tours by boat to view beluga whales, seals, seabirds, and polar bears. Each expedition is a half day in order to coordinate with the high tides. Both refreshments and lunch will be served aboard. Expect to see hundreds of whales! Beluga whales are very curious and social and will investigate the boat’s presence with a bold courage. Trekking/walking tours are a daily part of the programme and they range from short jaunts to photograph a passing caribou, to day trips with a packed lunch. Nesting bird life, fox dens, wild flowers, and caribou are just a few of the sights you may take in. Take a custom-made Tundra Tracker to see the Hudson Bay coast. A day trip in one of these vehicles allows you to cover a lot of shoreline while searching for wildlife. Lunch is a picnic enroute. There is ample time for exploration and photography. There are sea kayaks and canoes on site for your use at any time. In the evening you can enjoy the greatest light show on earth, especially in the latter part of the season.
Day 7 - Churchill
After breakfast you will transfer back to Churchill. The rest of the day is free to explore at your leisure before your flight back to Winnipeg this evening for your final night.
Day 8 - Depart
Return to the UK or extend your trip.
